Holiday Safety Tips
- Be sure to lock your doors and enable alarm system on your home and vehicle(s).
- Don’t display gifts where they can be seen from the outside of your home or vehicle(s).
- Consider breaking boxes down and transporting them to the recycle station instead of setting them at the curb.
- If traveling for the holidays, do not post this on Social Media Websites, such as Facebook. Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the home while you are gone or contact the Durham Police Department to conduct Security Checks of your home. Stop delivery of newspapers and/or mail.
- Conduct a Holiday Inventory. Keep a list of items and serial numbers. If these items are stolen, they can be traced by law enforcement with the serial numbers.
- If decorating the exterior your home for the holidays, please remove decorations in a timely manner, after the New Year.
