Campfire Recipes
{May 23, 2013}--With Memorial Day this weekend and July 4th just around the corner, many will be enjoying a campfire or bonfire in celebration. Here are a few easy campfire recipes to enjoy as well:
Campfire Strawberries
1 jar of marshmallow fluff
Strawberries (fresh)
--Dip the strawberries in marshmallow fluff, skewer on a stick, roast until marshmallow browns.
Curly Dogs
A twist on the traditional roasted hot dog:
8 frozen dinner rolls, thawed but still cold
1 package of hot dogs, 8 count
--Roll each roll into a 14-15 inch rope and twist each rope around the hot dog 4-5 times, securing the dough at the end. Skewer the hot dog on a stick and carefully rotate over the fire or hot coals until golden brown.
Campfire Mac ‘n’ Cheese
1 (4 3/8-inch) disposable aluminum pie pan
1/2 cup cooked elbow macaroni
1/4 cup shredded Cheddar
1 tablespoon Parmesan
1 tablespoon milk
1/2 tablespoon butter
Salt and pepper to taste
12- by 16-inch piece of foil
- Combine all the ingredients in the pan, seal it in foil (a double layer if you're cooking over an open flame) folding over the extra foil at the top to make a sturdy handle to poke a stick or tongs through.
- Hold the packet over a campfire or set it directly on a grill to melt the cheese, about 7 minutes. Let the pack cool briefly, then open it carefully. Stir before eating.
